The Abertis Foundation has started its summer programme of initiatives aimed at raising awareness among young people of the need to drive responsibly in their leisure time.
These actions, which are supported by the councils of Barcelona and Castelldefels, the Red Cross and the Guttmann Institute, are part of the “You only have one life” campaign which the Abertis Foundation has been running in recent years, and which has also been successfully transferred to other countries where the it operates.
As part of this campaign, a group of monitors from the Guttmann Institute affected by spinal injuries sustained in traffic accidents and volunteers from the Red Cross approach young people who are enjoying a night out to raise awareness of the need for responsible driving and alert them to the dangers of driving under the effects of alcohol or drugs and losing concentration while at the wheel.
Josep María Ramírez, the director of the Guttmann Institute, praises Abertis for offering people with spinal injuries sustained in a road accident the opportunity to raise awareness among young people of the need to avoid taking risks while driving.
The director of the Abertis Foundation, Sergi Loughney, reiterates Abertis’ commitment to improving road safety by supporting drivers of all ages, from inexperienced youngsters to senior citizens over the age of 70 who are still behind the wheel.
A new schedule of initiatives
The first action took place last night (Thursday) in Barcelona and will be repeated again today, Friday, in Calle Tuset / Moià from 23.30 in the presence of Sergi Loughney, director of the Abertis Foundation, and Núria Yepes, director of the Red Cross Youth in Barcelona, who will deal with the media present.
On Saturday, the initiative will take place in the town of Castelldefells (Paseo Marítimo / Av. Banys Nous) in the presence of the mayor of Castelldefells, Candela López Tagliafico, and the councillor for Governance, Security and Civil Protection, Jordi Planell. Also in attendance will be Georgina Flamme, contact person for the initiative at the Abertis Foundation, Manuel Jerez, coordinator of the Castelldefels Red Cross, and Xavier Romero, road safety monitor.
This weekend’s programme will also be staged on several days in July in Barcelona and Madrid. The town of Mataró (Catalonia) will be included for the first time at the end of the summer.
The Abertis Foundation was established in 1999 with the purpose of mitigating the impact of the Abertis Group’s activities on the different regions and countries in which it operates. The Foundation has always prioritised actions related to road safety, the environment and social action, in keeping with Abertis’ Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility Plan.
