Declared by the United Nations in 2021, the International Day of Argania, a unique ecosystem in the world, is celebrated on 10 May every year. This year it will become a symbol of resilience during the 6th Arganier International Congress held in Agadir (Morocco) on 10-13 May 2022, in hybrid format (on-site and online).
The UNESCOMED Centre will be present both at the celebration of the 2nd International Day of Argania and at the inauguration and conferences of the 6th Arganier International Congress (6th CIA).

The extensive report in the April issue of ABC's Natural supplement focuses this time on biosphere reserves as "Next Generation EU" territories. It highlights the unique opportunity that biosphere reserves represent to act as pilot territories encompassing today's unavoidable socio-environmental complexity. Biosphere reserves can be seen as living and dynamic laboratories where new approaches can be implemented, for example in the field of bioeconomy, thus becoming targets for investment by Next Generation EU funds.

"This thesis contributes to deepen the knowledge of the interface between institutional (top-down) and community-led (bottom-up) governance models in the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve in Morocco".
The main results of the thesis are a starting point for the design of new projects, synergies and collaborations from the UNESCOMED Center.

The project is coming to an end after 40 months of intense work and the involvement of more than 150 people, including professionals and university students from five Mediterranean countries.

On December 16 and 17, 2021, Dr. Antoni Mas-Ponce, a researcher linked to the UNESCO International Center for Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves, participated in the MAB-IHP Regional Symposium Managing Water Resources in Biosphere Reserves in South East and the Mediterranean, presenting the strategic lines and main research projects of the Center, as well as presenting the main results of its recent doctoral thesis, Assessing the effects of Global Change on Mediterranean river basins.
