The International Centre for the Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves is a center under the auspices of UNESCO that promotes the resilience of Mediterranean territories in the face of major global challenges.
Since its inception, the Abertis Foundation has embraced environmental sensitivity and promoted research on the impact of large infrastructures on the territory, with particular attention to the environment. Currently, through the Unescomed Center, it combines efforts to carry out research and training activities on Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves, as well as to promote the sustainability of ecosystems.
We are living through a time of profound global change that threatens both the conservation of our territories and the well-being of communities. In response, UNESCOMED promotes applied research and interterritorial collaboration to co-create and scale sustainable solutions, grounded in a Mediterranean perspective and driven by an international vision.
The Mediterranean Biosphere Reserve Network (MedMaB) was established in 2015 and was officially recognised as a thematic network of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MaB) Programme in 2023.
